Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen with Cellular Response Technology BroadSpectrum SPF50

I have tried Supergoop's everyday sunscreen before, and it was almost gone so I wanted to repurchase though it seems to be reformulated and packaged differently. The everyday sunscreen cellular response techology is at spf50 while the old one is spf30. The size I got for the new one is bigger too. Its 2.4 fl oz for $19 while the 1.5 fl oz old one I paid $15.

The cellular response technology is just antioxidants to fight free radicals of UVA, UVA, and infrared rays from the sun. The lotion is a tad thicker, but it absorbs quicker to the skin. It also has a slight lemon scent, and there is lemon oil in the ingredients. The old formula just had a light scent of the usual sunscreen smell. The sunscreen smell is in the new lotion, but the lemon does mask it mostly.

So far, its as good as the old formula. The old one doesn't feel greasy to me, but compare to the new one the old one does feel greasy. In other words, the new formula is actually an improvement. Sometimes when products get a new formula people complain that its worse or cheapened but this one thankfully isn't one of those incidences. Also the expiration date seems longer this time. My old one had about a year after I purchase before it expires and the new the expiration date is 2 years later.

Overall, I do recommend this sunscreen. It doesn't make me oilier than usual during the day, its lightweight enough on the skin, and it doesn't break me out or irritate my skin. Its hard to tell whether the sunscreen actually protects you or not, but I don't think I've gotten too many age spots since using it.

I have check this sunscreen on EWG and was surprised to see it had a high health concern score of 8 out of 10. There are quite a few ingredients EWG says is toxic and even cancerous. For a brand that says is safe this isn't safe at all! While I do enjoy this product I will have to look for something else.

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream Broad Spectru SPF 40 Sunscreen

Shiseido UV Protection Sunscreen. Very long name. So this came with my Shiseido set, and its in a .57 oz tube. This is a sunscreen so it has water resistant of 40 minutes. It can be used for both face and body. It protects you from enirvonment and is a anti-aging sunscreen.

The cream is light in texture and goes on the skin smoothly and quickly. It quite light too so you can hardly feel it. The scent is strong though at least for me it is. I can still smell it even after a few hours. It has this perfume-y baby powder like scent which isn't that pleasant to me, but its not horrid. The scent can give me a headache since I'm sensitive to it. Fragrance is in the ingredients list so if you're sensitive to it as well I would avoid this product. There's even a Skin Cancer Foundation seal on the box saying its recommend for daily use.

I really do like it since its light and has high SPF, but I would have to use it in areas other than my face to avoid getting headaches. If fragrance doesn't bother you I would recommend trying this since its so light, but otherwise the scent is just too much.

Supergoop! SPF 30 Everyday Face & Body Lotion

I saw this featured on Sephora and it caught my interest. I've been looking for a better everyday sun protection and this looked promising. I have used SPF moisturizers but they only have SPF 15 and that didn't prevent the age spots. I also have Shiseido's Urban Environment UV protection cream with SPF 40 but the fragrance irritates my eyes and gives me a headache so I can't use it on my face.

Luckily I found Supergoop on Amazon for a cheaper price than Sephora. I got the tube with the yellow bar. I'm not a fan of these rectangular squeeze tubes because its really hard to get the last bits of product out from the end. Though the shape is travel and purse friendly. I have to say that the name is kind of weird and not that appealing, haha. But I am willing to try it since it be silly to judge the product on the name.

This sunscreen is supposedly formulated to be healthy and safe. Meaning it has no parabens, fragrance, oxybenzone, oil free, or other controversial ingredients. It's also infused with vitamins and antioxidants. There are four active ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Ochioxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5%, and Octocrylene 2.8%. The inactive ingredients are mostly scientific names but water is first on the list. There's also glycerin, aloe juice, hydrogeneated soybean oil, blueberry extract, and sunflower seed extract. It is safe for children age 4 and over.

Directions are like any other sunscreen with apply 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours in sun. It is water resistant for 80 minutes but I am using this for everyday so water resistance is not a factor I really care for. So far I am really liking the formula. It is really light and dries quickly. The best part is that its scent is light so its a relief to be able to use it on my face. I barely smell it anymore after applying.

I haven't use it for long but so far so good! I will update this post as I continue to use it.

Olay Total Effects 7-in-1

This is a review on the Revitalizing Foaming Cleanser and Anti-Aging UV Moisturizer SPF 15 I bought from Olay's Total Effects 7in1 line. This line is to fight the 7 signs of aging which are: fine lines and wirnkles, age spots, uneven texture, dryness, free radical damage, dullness, and pores. It supposedly packed with vitamins for a younger looking skin.

I bought the cleanser first since I needed a cleanser that was affordable and this seemed to be the best option. Before I used a Burt's Bees cream cleanser and if I had to choose between that and the Olay one I'd choose the Burt's Bees. The Olay cleanser isn't anything special. The product is a gle that foams when you lather, but the foaming part is really lacking. Its really light and airy which doesn't do much of anything. I've used foam cleansers that foam up nice and thick and does a great job at cleansing my face plus it also feels amazing. It also has a bit of a perfume smell which I'm not fond of, but its mild so I barely notice it. The packaging is nice though. Its flexible and the opening has flexible plastic layer with a * slits that the product passes through. Its probably to prevent leaking and it does prevent it pretty well. Overall its not a cleanser I would repurchase.

I bought the SPF moisturizer since I needed sun protection and haven't had one in too long. It comes in a 1.7 fl oz light plastic pump bottle. The design of the pump is a little funny, but it works. Though the product does sit in the pump when you use it, but luckily the product doesn't dry out so I don't get dried bits the next day I use it. The sun protection is broad spectrum so it will protect your from UVA and UVB rays. The product is a white light cream, and it doesn't really have much of a smell. It does have a bit of that sunscreen smell, but it is quite light so its not entirely noticeable. It doesn't give you a white cast and it goes on the skin quite thinly, and it absorbs into the skin quickly as well. It did a good job in protecting the sun damage to my skin, and it doesn't seem to break me out though it doesn't prevent acne. Though It doesn't help control oiliness nor help with blackheads and pores. I do get quite oily by the end of the day. The bottle has a expiration date print on and mine says it epires on 8/2015 which is well over a year after I purchased it. For a drugstore spf moisturizer I think this is a pretty good one so I recommend it! There seem to be more than one version of this moisturizer, but the SPF one is what I needed the most.
I might try the other products in this line so if I do I will keep this post updated!

Garnier Skin Renew Anti Sun Damage Daily Moisture Lotion SPF 28

Had to throw away expired sunscreen and saw that this lotion hadn't been used in awhile. There is no expiration date on the bottle, but since it hasn't been a year since I bought this it should be good to use.

The product is in a 2.5 fl oz pump bottle. The product has UVA and UVB protection with 3% avobenzone, 5% octisalate, and 7% octocrylene as active ingredients. The lotion is not sticky or gives a white cast on your skin. It goes on very thinly and dries really quick. It doesn't make me oily during the warm weather. After over a week of using this my skin did break out a bit. I should mention that my time of the month was at the same time so it could trigger the breakout, but I really didn't break out that much or at all the past couple months.

After using this for almost two months, I can't really say for sure if it helped prevent sun spots. With an SPF of 28 its goods for practically all year sun protection for me. Despite it being 99% oil free and non greasy I did get oily within a few hours. Also feel my skin is more susceptible to acne and blackheads. The blackheads on my nose has gotten a tad worse than before. My skin has gotten more rough as well.

I realized that this lotion has Alcohol Denat. so that explains why it doesn't feel very moisturizing. My other skincare also has alcohol so it most likely contributed to my oiliness and other skin troubles. So I will need to change my skincare routine to balance out the alcohol levels. But my skin continues to feel rough and my blackheads are getting worse. It could be because this product is a tad old. So I had to toss this product out since its not helping me. It was half empty too.

Overall, I don't think its worth it. Spend your money on a proper suncare and moisturizer products.

Importance of Sunscreen and overall sun protection

To clear any false assumptions, sun protection does not mean block the entirety of sunlight. Sunlight consists of infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light. What we need protection from is the ultraviolet (UV) light which gives us sunburn, suntan, and cancer. It also proven to be a leading factor of age signs in skin. UV rays are damaging especially to collagen which is what keeps skin healthy and youthful looking. The damages are visible in varies forms from wrinkles, fine lines, liver/age spots and freckles, redness, leathery skin, and sag.

Look up the photo of a trucker who has one side of his face clearly showing heavy amount of wrinkles and other sun damage from the window compare to the rest of his face. When you go out, look at people above the age of 40 and see if they have these sun damage signs. You will see that sun damage is not a pretty sight. UV come in many types, but UVA, UVB, and UVC are what cauces damage and have free radicals which can cause cancer and other diseases since they penetrate deeper.

Most of the drugstore sunscreens just have UVB protection which is what gives us sunburn. UVB only penetrates the surface layer of the skin (epidermis). All sunscreen have SPF which stands for Sun Protection factor. The number that goes along with SPF is how long the product can protect you from getting burnt before it breaks down. Since people have different amount of time before they get burnt the length of time varies. So if someone normally gets sunburned in 30 minutes with spf 15 you multiply 15 with 30 which means that person will take 7 hours and 30 minutes before they get sunburned. UVB is also where you get the vitamin D from the sun. A daily exposure of 10-20 minutes is enough to get your vitamin D.

UVA is what the majority of UV radiation is emitted and it penetrates deeper than UVB plus its also one of the causes of aging and cancer. Both UVA and UVB gives you a tan, but UVA gives you a tan faster and longer lasting compare to UVB. Sunscreen that have the words "broad spectrum" usually means it has UVA protection. Some products have the letters "PA" along with +'s is UVA protection label. The more +'s the stronger the UVA protection.

Higher strength in sun protection can be harmful since it means more chemicals. Be sure to look up the active and inactive ingredients of sunscreen products to be sure they are safe to use. Also look up active ingredients of UVA and UVB protection to be sure the product does what its suppose to.

Sample Impression: Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream For Face SPF 55 PA+++

This is the highest and strongest sunscreen I've used. Its a great one because its water resistant and it doesn't give me a white sheen and not too oily. Plus it goes on thin and smoothly and its moisturizing. However it has a moderate scent to it that I find to be strong and lasts for hours and I really don't like it. It maybe that I've had it for quite awhile so it maybe be a bit stale side or something. Other than the weird smell this is a pretty good sunscreen for the price.

Iqqu Advance Sunscreen SPF35

Iqqu is a brand from Thailand but you can order their products from their site iqqubeauty.com

This has UVA and UVB protection even though it doesn't have the PA ++ on the package. It comes in a squeezable white 30ml/1.01oz tube. It's a cute size and travel friendly. I use it on my face and it's goes on light and practically is unscented. It has a paste or grainy like look to it but it feel velvety smooth. It does have a subtle white filmy look when you put it on so use it before makeup. And you don't need to use much either as it's easy to smooth the product over your face.

Overall I like this product.
