These are short reviews of otome app games I've been playing. If any of them are any good when I played them long enough I will do a full separate post of them.
The Cinderella Contract ~The Royal Wedding ~ by Arithmetic
You play as a Japanese woman on a business trip. Your boss asks you to go to a party to be someone's date. This party is high class with princes with one as the host. You meet each of the potential partners through this party. The next day you head back to Japan, but you have a issues at the country which your connecting flight is in. This is where you choose one of the three pairs of guys each represent a fictional country: Rossiyskaya, Flanelia, and Ingrays. One of the princes' will come help you and ends up getting you to stay in their country due to feigning an engagement. So this starts the game and you also have the potential to pin after the second guy even though you are supposedly marrying the first guy. Other than the typical choices during the story mode, there are trails where you have to gain points to clear the trails to proceed. One is doing love lessons to gain more Elegance and second is dressing your avatar up to gain more Charm. The free currency in this game is called Feminine, and Platinum is the paid currency. Sometimes the English translation is a little funny in some parts, and there are areas that are still in Japanese, haha. The annoying thing about this game is when you open it it will open a page in Safari and switch back to the game. I haven't done too much of the game, but so far its pretty good. There are events where you get limited time scenarios with some of the guys. This is a pretty good game with a decent variety of guys to chose from.
Sweet Scandal ~ My Love Report ~ by OKKO/Arithmetic
You play as a reporter for a magazine and is given a great opportunity to do a popular column on a male celebrity. This is where you choose one of the three guys to do your article on. As usual of reporters your go see the guy of your choice and try to get him to agree to help you with your article. Clearly this relationship would eventually go from professional to romantic. The setup of this game is the same as the vampire BL game I wrote about from an earlier post. I picked the tennis guy who hates the media. Not that into the guys in this game, but they are not bad. The story isn't that original, but still kind of interesting.
The Seal of Lycoris by Koyonplete
There are three apps for this game each with a different guy so I chose Tomoyuki the childhood friend of your character. Some terrible supernatural event happens to you that involves all three guys. The two other guys are after you for some reason. Each day you get jewels which you need to use to proceed with the story. I haven't gotten very far in the story since this jewel system barely lets me read 10 lines. I'm not that into this weird supernatural story, but maybe it will get interesting? Also I've been playing this mute, but when I had the sound on I learned its voiced! In Japanese of course, but what really bothers me is the sound quality is bad. Its quiet and a bit muffled compared to the music.
Love! Sushi Rangers by Koyonplete
This game is weird because you play a the daughter of a sushi chef who owns a restaurant. Your father suddenly has to leave and entrusts you with the restaurant. You have no idea how to take this sudden decision so that night you hear voices in the kitchen of the restaurant who happen to be the sushi ingredients turned into humans. Yes, its weird. Even though there are 6 six guys you only choose one out of the four. The stories are quite short and the choices to raise affection is quite easy. When its time to see the ending you get the option to see the happy ending if you didn't reach it for 30 koyon which it gives you for free. After seeing the ending it gives you the option to see other endings too.
ボーイフレンド(仮) or Boyfriend is an otome game but its also not really an otome game. Its like a card game and its very much like the Final Fantasy game I've played earlier. This game is only in Japanese and at the moment only available to play on a mobile browsers. There's also Girlfriends version of the game and it on iTunes and Googleplay put its restricted to Japan so you will need a Japanese account. You will need to sign up for a Ameba account to play these games. Interestingly enough there is a game by CyberAgent that you can download in the US iTunes titled in Japanese "萌えガチャ男子" where some of the same guys are in as well, but I will talk about that game in another post.
UPDATE! This game is now available on iTunes App store and GooglePlay but only in the Japanese store.
This oddly came up in the search results when I looked for bl games, but it is not a bl game! Actually this game surpassed my expectations since I wasn't expecting much due to me not that into the art style.
There are several versions of this game. Compare to their other game, PureLove, the quality overall is much better.
Love Academy is a otome game where you enter a music school and in the beginning you choose one of the guy's path you want to follow. Each scenario cost 10 koyon and each day you get 20 koyon so its not much. There is a tutorial to explain the game. There is a scenario collection page where it lists all the guys and the chapters most of which are locked or have a set koyon price. Even though you read it already you have to pay to reread. The page with a arrow between two people is to change the guy route which is free to do for the first 3 times. There are two image galleries one is special images you come across in the story and the other is a image that you collect pieces of after finishing a chapter.
Then the other Love Academy games are the bl version of the game. Its the story of Jun, a younger brother of one of the guys in the otome game. This is a set story of Jun and his love story with the school's doctor. Love Academy Yaoi is the same style as Love Academy and it even have the same prologue and it suddenly starts Jun's story. The other app is called Jun Love Academy which has Koyonplete's newest UI which is much more modern and minimalistic. The gameplay is much simpler though. Each day you the roulette game will start and give you jewels which is what you need to read the story. The story cost a small amount for each tap. There's also a chat ticker on the top which is annoying but you can disable it in the menu, but it doesn't save this so you need to do it every time you open the app. You get farther in the story in Love Academy Yaoi then in JUN. The story is exactly the same just the graphics are setup differently. JUN has 3D Prallax Display which makes the blurry background move as you tilt your device. Its not the best since the background will be shaking and it looks odd. I turn it off. Plus JUN tends to crash on me and L.A. Yaoi doesn't crash on my at all.
Both are ok games. The stories are not too interesting, but it hasn't lost my interest. I'd say it deserves a try at least. Its a free game!
I've mentioned in the Boyfriend game post that there is another game that has a few of the same guys in. You can find this game in the US iTunes store under the developer CyberAgent. The game title is not in english and its listed as "萌えガチャ男子"its free and also has a age 17+ restriction.
Been trying out a few otome games available in English on the app store. So I will give a review of the ones I've tried. If you know any you can recommend please comment!
Love Letter from Theif X by Voltage
You work at a museum and as you close up for the night the alarm sets off. You see a thieves taking a painting, and you chase after them. You ended up knocking a display, and one of the thieves catches it to save you. In the end you weren't able to stop them. They come after you one night and ask you to join them. Then you choose one of the thieves to keep you safe. Unfortunately you have to pay to for each character story. The art is nice and the guys are attractive. You do have to tap when it goes to a black screen. I'm use to black or loading screens to automatically take you to the next screen, but you have to tap.
My Forged Wedding by Voltage
Story starts off with you going to your uncle in Tokyo to find a job. Your uncle is a successful man and you meet him in his sportbar where he introduces you to 5 guys. At first you thought this was a job interview, but soon learn you're personally helping the guys. They don't tell you what it is, but you have no choice. You are forced to choose only one to help. Like the game above you do have to pay ($3.99) to proceed in each of the guys story, but the first chapter is free though it isn't much. There are two other guys that weren't in the prologue but is in the character choices. Also even your uncle is among the character choices so he is a candidate. The art in these Voltage games is really nice and the guys in this game are much more appealing to me than the thieves one. So if you were to want to spend money I would suggest this game. If you can't but still want to know the story you can search on youtube and there are videos of all the guys stories.
Naughty Contract Marriage by Arithmetic
You have three not bad guys to choose from and basically they make you marry them depending on which guy you choose. Unlike the Voltage games, Arithmetic uses Scenario Tickets to proceed with the story. Each day you get 5 but the scenes are super short so you don't get that far. You will have to purchase more if you don't want to wait. The art is pretty good though not as nice as Voltare's.
Shall we date? Destiny Ninja by NTT Solmare
You start with the prologue and tutorial. Story sets in historical Japan and there is a war. Then you have to choose a guy to start the story. You wake up in the middle of battle and is saved you chose. You have apparently lost your memory so you under the care of the guy you chose. Like with Arithmetic games proceeding with the story is free. You get Energy which regenerates by hours. Your max Energy is 5. Like the art and it fits the historical setting.
Pure Love- My Boyfriend's a Star by Koyonplete
I had a hard time getting this to work the first time I opened it. It wasn't loading for me at all. I tried later and it worked fine so maybe it was doing maintenance? Anyways. compare to the games above the quality of the UI and artwork is not as high. Perhaps a startup company? The tutorial and prologue is short. You are a foreigner studying and working in Japan when you get scouted to be a model by the same agency as the top male idol group Pureness. You have a health bar of 4 hearts. Each story part takes up a heart and the hearts will reset after a day so its free to read the story. There are 5 idol guys to choose from. None of them are too appealing to me but I haven't gotten very far to judge them properly. This game is simple and doesn't have the extra stuff the other games do with avatar dressing up or have social media features.
