Silo series

I heard this show was good so I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. The first episode hooked me! It has an amazing cast and I find the setting to be intriguing. There's a mystery but the main question you'd be asking is "Why?" but not in a bad way but a good way. I think its best to go into this as blind as possible. This series is based on a book serious which I learned recently the author is one of the show's producers!  The book was written over 10 years ago so I feel they might've adjusted the story to fit present day more. Currently there's 3 seasons with season 4 on the way. I feel this is a good time to catch up as I feel season 3 ended in a good spot.

This show has by far my favorite female lead character yet. She's an engineer which is good character skill to have her be good at solving problems. But the other characters are also great. They're well written and have character growth and even redemption arcs. Its incredibly satisfying.

I do find the story to be a bit predictable but it doesn't make it at all boring or dumb it down. Maybe Game of Thrones changed the way I expect from shows these days, but thankfully this show doesn't do any horrifying shock twists. It also solves the mysteries it sets and has decent pacing. There are some things they do drag out a bit throughout the season but since each season is 10 episodes, its not a super long drag out and doesn't carry over to the next season.

Overall, I highly recommend the show!

Andor

Andor is a spin off Star Wars series that is a prequel to the movie Rogue One. And the Rogue One movie is a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy. This is all build up that leads into getting the Death Star plans. So since its before the original trilogy, there are no Jedis or Siths. No major characters like R2D2 that appears or even mentioned. But I do find this series very compelling and entertaining. The story really helps build the world and the empire as well as the rebels.

The series follows several characters and plotlines. It can be a bit confusing to keep track of them all and sometimes some story beats are fast and some are slow. Sometimes some parts of the story seems like filler. But overall the story and acting is superb! I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did but it is pretty well written and acted. The music also fits so well and I find the tone to be quite serious and tense.

There's only 2 seasons so its not a huge time commitment.  Definitely one of the best Star Wars in years!

Black Mirror Season 7 (2025)

Black Mirror is a series I've been a fan of since the first season so I was excited to see that a new season came out. Some seasons has its ups and downs. I did feel each season had one or two good episodes and the rest were ok in my opinion. But this one I feel every episode is pretty good! Usually most of the episodes leave me feeling disturbed but most of the ones in this season didn't. Not to say none of it was disturbing but I felt less dread than usual.

Some of the episodes are very human. Some interesting themes to. I was surprised the last episode is a continuation of an episode of a previous season. I think its a nice bookend to the season as it seems to circle back to the first episode. Overall I quite enjoyed this season. It didn't leave me feeling bad which is unexpected but not unwelcomed.

Severance (2025)

So I've been hearing how good Severance was so I decided to give it a go to see. This is a Apple TV+ show but you can buy it on other platforms. At this moment there are 2 seasons with a third season planned in the future. I got hooked in the first 30 minutes. First season is great! I'm definitely glad I waited to watch it since I wouldn't be able to wait to see what happens next. The second season was a bit slower than I'd like but I was pretty satisfied with how they ended that season.

Its hard for me to describe the premise of this show but its pretty much one of those stories where there's an big corporation doing shady things with their employees. Its a scifi with the technology of a little chip that gets implanted into employees who are working on the severed floor which is below ground. They're severed because their memories are severed. They don't remember anything about themselves or much of the outside world. The floor is brightly lit with lots of plain hallways to make it a maze and no windows. When they're done their work shift of the day they don't remember anything of what they did at work. This creates two separate lives in one body. I found this show pretty thought provoking and entertaining. The writing is great, the intro music and animation is great, the acting is great, and I just really enjoyed it. The way it pokes fun at corporate speak and world was just fun to watch. Just the awkwardness between employees and their superiors was amusing to me. While I never had a office job, this kind of work environment is still happens to other industries so its something anyone who had a job can be familiar with.

I didn't expect to see Ben Stiller's name in the credits as a producer and director but I'm glad he's doing well. There's also some familiar guest actors that I was happy to see again! Overall, definitely recommend the show and say that people who said it was good is telling the truth. I look forward to season 3!

Shrinking (2023)

This show is better than I expected. Its only on Apple tv but the first episode is free to watch. Its a really nice show about grief, family, and friendships. The show revolves around a therapist Jason Segal plays as, his colleagues that Jessica Williams and Harrison Ford plays, his daughter, his friend, and his neighbors as well as his patients. The shows has great writing! Pretty funny and it does get serious and real at some moments. Very relatable too. Acting and pacing has been great too!

Since I watched this for Harrison Ford, I will say he's great in it! Since he's one of the main characters he does get quite a bit of screentime. His character's relationship with others is entertaining. His character has Parkinson's and puts up a wall around himself that the show revolves around him slowly opening up to the people he cares about. Definitely a great character for Harrison to play.

This show has gotten to me emotionally. It has some really great character growth. So far it has 2 seasons out and a 3rd seems to be in the works. I definitely recommend it and wished more people watched it!

1923 (2024)

I've started to watch more media that Harrison Ford is in since I realized he's in his 80s and its been awhile since I've seen him. So I read that he's currently working on two series and one is a him as a cowboy. I just finished the first season and it seems the second one will start in February.

This show is pretty violent but I am enjoying it so far. The show follows 3 people so there's 3 story lines that I suspect are going to converge at some point. The main story is the Dutton family and their ranch over Yellowstone. This time period had a lot of technological changes and other hardships and Dutton's struggle with the changes. This story does have the largest cast so its not all through the main character which Harrison Ford plays. I do like his character and I am enjoying these "old white man" roles Harrison Ford has been acting as. He is still charming and funny.

The second story line follows another Dutton, Harrison's character's youngest son, who is abroad in Africa as a hunter as he goes through PTSD of being in WWI. Quite a change from the western cowboy so it was refreshing to get back to this character's story line. Also the actor, Brandon Sklenar, is incredibly attractive. I also do love the female character he meets too and I'm starting to see where their story is going to lead into.

The third story is also a huge tone shift. It follows a young teenage native american girl go through cruelty in a school run by a church. It is hard to watch her get beaten but I find it is well done in how they handle it. The acting and writing for this is great too.

The pacing in this show is great too! None felt too long or too short. Acting is also great! Definitely looking forward to the second season!

Lovecraft Country (2020)

Lovecraft Country is a horror show and is an adaptation of a novel of the same name. I heard this was good so I gave it a try and I've enjoyed it! While it does have monsters and magic, this is also set in the 1950s in Jim Crow America. The main characters are mainly black people so there is some strong racism and even homophobia and misogyny scenes throughout the whole story. There is also a decent amount of sex scenes and nudity. While I only recall a brief show of genitalia, there are a good amount of scenes with fully exposed breasts. Obviously since this is a horror show there are plenty of blood, gore, and violence and disturbing scenes in general. Despite the Lovecraft in the title there isn't much of it in this. The premise is the main character, Atticus, goes to find his missing father in Ardham, MA where Lovecraft based some of his stories from and its spirals from there. The story is not bad and the acting is great! So I do recommend it!

HBO Watchmen (2019)

HBO Watchmen is an adaptation of the comics of the same name. This series is more like a sequel to the comics as it takes place some years later. I do enjoy the way the tell the story here and its not unlike other superhero stories that I've seen so far. Its got mystery that keeps you wanting more to find out the answers. The music is great, the writing was interesting, the acting is good ... there isn't much I can complain about this series! I do recommend it but I do want to warn that there is nudity, flashing lights, and disturbing scenes of supernatural kind and racism.

Racism is like half the show. The first episode starts off with the Tulsa Massacre. I recall people on social media complaining about the racism but they're idiots. It may be an uncomfortable topic, but it is an important topic since massacres of black people aren't as wildly remembered as the holocaust or native americans at least to an American like myself. Besides there's plenty of non-racism material this shows has to offer!

Mr. Robot season 4 (2019)

Finally the final season of Mr. Robot has come. Its definitely been a ride and this season seem to wrap itself up as neatly as possible. Since its been awhile it did take me a minute or two to remember some of the characters that appeared. Its an interesting finale for sure, but I can't say it left me satisfied. Theres some characters I wish had more screentime and other wish they had less focus on. This season was entertaining and enjoyable. I put it off till the seasoned ended so I could binged watched it. Its definitely a great show overall that I highly recommend.

The Mandalorian (2019)

The Mandalorian is a Star Wars tv series that takes place between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It 8 episodes long and there is a season 2 coming. The writing style of this series is very western and it fits despite it being Star Wars. Despite it being a tv show it still has the same quality as the films just this one doesn't need expensive CGI. Story is about a bounty hunter that is known only as the Mandalorian. You don't need to know Star Wars lore as the show will explain things. You may have already seen or heard about baby Yoda, but yes this is the baby Yoda show and I think its worth it to watch this it this green little guy since its so adorable!

Even though it looks like Yoda it can't be possible since this show is set after the original trilogy. Since theres no name for his species the baby is mostly called the child in this show. Whats great is that its not CGI but an actual puppet. But this show is mainly about the bounty hunter, the Mandalorian. If you find the design of this guy familiar its because Boba Fett is also a Mandalorian as well. This show also has a great cast as well. Some episodes are slower than others which I don't mind. The characters aren't bad but I'm not attached to them as much as I am to baby Yoda. But I do recommend this show and I do look forward to season 2. So if you want more Star Wars or just don't like the current Star Wars movies or games, you show try this show out.

Ossan's Love In The Sky (2019)

Ossan's Love In The Sky is a different version of Ossan's Love. The main actors for Haruta and the old man is the same, but the 3rd guy is a different actor and character. I do actually enjoy this version more as I find the characters written better and emotion are handled better. Story is also quite different because of that and this time the workplace is set at an airline. Haruta is a brand new cabin attendant and the two guys are pilots. There's also another important character who is a maintenance guy at the airline. Conveniently most of the guys live at the dormitory!

There's still humor and silly camera work. I do overall enjoyed this and glad I gave it a go as I thought it just be the same as the other show. There is a movie that is a sequel to the other show but that's another post. I definitely would recommend watching this! I liked the way it ended as well. I don't want to spoil anything on this show.

The Good Place

The Good Place is about a woman name Eleanor Shellstrop who finds herself in the afterlife in heaven. But compared to the other residents and knowing herself, she realizes she wasn't suppose to be there. She confides this information to her supposed "soulmate", Chidi Anagonye, who is a professor of ethics and morale philosophy. Eleanor makes Chidi to help her prevent Michael, the architect and runner of the neighborhood, from finding out that she isn't good but a selfish person who did a lot of bad things. This show is pretty entertaining so I highly recommend it. Currently there's four seasons which you may wonder how they could stretch a story like this out that much. But they sure can!

I enjoy the comedy and the characters. The humor is very American as they reference a lot of American stuff. Sure, in about season 3 you may get a bit tired of them doing that thing they do again. But each season these writers know how to hook you in and make you stay on this train.

The Boys (2019)

The Boys is a Amazon Prime show thats based of the graphic novel. The story is a darker depiction of a world like Marvel or DC where the superheroes are run by a huge corporation and the superheroes themselves are secretly assholes. You follow a group of guys who are going after these superheroes, but they're just normal people so its a challenge to take down the heroes. This show is very violent with the gore to go with it as well as strong sexual content and nudity. So I definitely will warn you about the disturbing content this has though I think the graphic novel may have more. If this doesn't sound like something you'd enjoy I'd stay away. This is a very interesting and nice change from the success of Marvel movies in recent years so I did enjoy this show. I do recommended it and right now season one has 8 hour long episodes, and a season two has been lit up.

Good Omens (2019)

Been hearing people talk about this so I gave it a go. Good Omens is a Amazon original show based and written on a book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The story is a about Angels, Devils, and Armageddon. It stars an angel name Aziraphale played by Michael Sheen, and a demon name Crowley played by David Tennant. These two have been on Earth since the beginning and are actually friends. They enjoy their life on Earth till both Heaven and Hell decides it time to bring about Armageddon. This show isn't serious but rather fun so I rather enjoyed watching this! Since its a mini series with 6 episodes you can watch it all rather easily. So I highly recommend it!

I hadn't watch anything with David Tennant in it and I have to say he kind of stole the show for me. He play his character so well and just an entertaining actor and fun to watch. There some great and entertaining characters in this. The CGI is obvious but I think its meant to look like that since we are dealing with non human beings. Overall the show is well done!

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

A new and unique Black Mirror episode came out and its a interactive episode where you to make choices. Its a really interesting and neat idea and think its worth going through. It got me to pay for Netflix. Since it is Black Mirror things can get weird and psychological. I do recommend this! There are several main story endings and it will allow you to see them. It seems the paths to get to these endings varies so its definitely a conversation item. The rest of this post will have spoilers so please don't read if you haven't seen Bandesnatch yet!!

Lost in Space (2018)

Lost in Space is like a modernised remake of the old Lost in Space show back in the 60s. I didn't see the old one so I won't be comparing the two. This show is on Netflix and is 10 episodes long. A season 2 is in the works. I did enjoy this show though it does heavily center around the family that I find frustrating to watch a bit. The story is about the Earth dying and qualified people are heading towards the new planet. This group had an incident and had to evacuate which made them stranded on a unknown planet.

The family the show centers on is the Robinsons who have three children. The mother is an aerospace engineer, the father a US Navy SEAL, and the eldest daughter is a doctor. The younger two children do not have jobs. The youngest is a 11 year old boy name Will who has a tough time handling stress which makes him a bit incompetent compare to the rest of the family. Trying to survive in a dangerous planet with a kid this young is stressful and difficult. Will does end up finding a alien robot that turns out to be not hostile.

The show feels more survival than scifi, but the scifi part of it is neat to me. The Robot and the ships I find neat, but most of the time they deal with nature and relationship and personal drama. The villain in the show is Dr Smith who is a sociopath and manipulative. She is well acted an interesting character, but she only cares to save herself so she is a bit one dimensional. But yeah, she's the main villain in hte story, and not the Robot or any alien lifeform. Though I do hope that may change in the new season!

Ossan's Love (2018)

Ossan's Love is a Japanese drama story about a love triangle between three men who are working in the same real estate office. This is more of a comedic story than an romance story. There is also a movie version that came out in 2016. You follow Haruta, a single 33 year old man who wants to get married but isn't popular with women at all. He also lives with his mother but she decided to leave the house so he could learn to live independently. Haruta gets the newbie coworker Maki to be his roommate since Maki knows how to cook and do house chores. Haruta ends up having Maki, and his boss Kurosawa confessing their love for him.

I haven't watched a Japanese drama in years, but this caught my eye since quite a bit of the Japanese artists I follow on twitter have been tweeting about it that it caught my interest. Unfortunately this show doesn't seem to have anyone subbing it in english. So far, the dialogue has been easy for me to understand despite not being fluent in the language. I do hope it does get subbed because I do find this show entertaining. The characters and actors are great, and the story is silly but I love it.

Haruta is not a bad looking fellow, but he is quite childish. Kurosawa, Haruta's boss, is a much older man and is also married. He is a respected boss that Haruta looks up to. The actors for Haruta and Kurosawa are the same in the movie and the tv show. Everything else is different. Haruta's roommate is different, the company they work at is different, the close female friend of Haruta is different, but the story is relatively the same. The movie is short too so the story is at a faster pace, and shorter than the tv show for sure. The show does have better pacing and the story is more interesting. Overall, I do recommend watching this! Please visit the official twitter or instagram to watch the trailers!

The Handmaid's Tale (2017)

This show is based on a book of the same name, and quite a few people recommended. I was hesitant since its about women being only used for making babies which deterred me quite a bit. Though I did end up watching the first episode, and I got hooked. Its well done for this distopia setup of a world were fertility is drastically declined, and the majority of the US is taken over by some crazy religious people.

The story follows June who is a handmaiden. The show goes between the present and past of her life. June has a husband and a little girl, but they all get separated. Since she's fertile she is taken to be a handmaiden. Its a rather messed up business. Handmaids have to abandon their name and are given a name based of the man they are assigned to. For June, she is called Offred. She lives in the same house as the man name Fred, who has an important position. His wife Serena has been trying to have a child, but hasn't had any luck. She isn't kind to June though since women can no longer have a job or read, having a child is probably all Serena has to focus on.

The show focuses on the mental agony of being a handmaiden, and the horror of the brutal killings of those who rebel. How the system even work is weird and doesn't make much sense though I try not to let it bother me. It is overall a good show so I do recommend it. They didn't make it seem as awful as I thought it be given the lack of consent that's going on as horrible as that sounds. A second season is coming so I will be watching that as well.

Black Mirror Season 4 (2017)

I've wrote a post about Black Mirror before, and this is only on season 4 which came out yesterday/today. There's 6 total episodes in this season, each about an hour long. Some longer and some shorter. Most of the episodes are pretty good so I definitely recommend them! The rest of this post will be spoilers so do not continue to read if you've haven't seen it!

Castlevania (Netflix)

This is probably the first Netflix animated series thats for adults. The first season is only 4 episodes long, and it retells the same story as Castlevania 3. Castlevania is a video games series that I do recommend googling on. While this isn't animated by Japanese studio, it is in anime style. It does a pretty good job and the quality is decent.

Even though its only 4 episodes long, it has good pacing though it may take a while for things to get interesting as there's a bit of backstory and setup story to go through. There is a number of dubs, but sadly there's no Japanese dub. I have to look elsewhere for that since it does exist and I do find the Japanese to be better. I wasn't exactly impressed with the English voices. Overall, I do recommend this series!
