Touken Ranbu Katsugeki
This anime is based off the online browser game, but unlike Hanamaru this isn't a comedy slice of life take on it. This anime version focuses more on the fighting part of the game where the swords go protect history from demons.
So far the anime has only followed a unit of five swords: Kunihiro, Kanesada, Mutsunokami, Yagen, and Tombokiri. Tsurumaru seem to join them a bit later. In Hanamaru, the master is a female that we never see and is like a NEET who just stays inside all the time. In Katsugeki, the master is given a design and look ambiguous as there isn't an official statement tat says the master is a female or male.
The animation looks better than Hanamaru. Ufotable does well at animating action scenes which there are plenty in each episode. It really makes the characters shine when they fight. The start of this anime doesn't really explain much about the series so it may be a bit confusing if you are totally new to it. They have yet to return back to home and I don't think they will. Personally don't find these missions that interesting, and at times I do move my attention to something else until things get more exciting during the episode. While Hanamaru may not be the best, but its silliness kept my attention longer. If you are a fan of this series, I do recommend giving both anime a try. Both have its own strength and weaknesses, and its not often a series gets a second take that makes it different and not a remake.
