Shingeki no Kyojin ( Attack on Titan ) Season 2
The long awaited season 2 is now 6 episodes in, and so far its been pretty good. First I wanted to mention that there have been people complaining that this season should be more than 12 episodes long. While this is quite understandable, you will need to understand the other side which are the animators and the lack of them. This twitter user is an English speaker who works in the animation industry in Japan has tweeted about this issue. To summarize, animating is becoming a less desirable career so there are a number anime schools are closing down. More and more anime are contracted to be made each year, but animators are getting too little pay for the many hours of work they are put through. For a show like Shingeki no Kyojin, you need qualified animators to do the kind of action scenes it requires. Please understand that this second season was only worked on for months and not years. WIT Studio has other projects to do too. So far, the animation has definitely improved since the first season. If you want to help the animators and the studio, watch anime legally!! If you don't live alone, you can split the cost. Streaming services are fairly inexpensive. Plus crunchyroll allows you to watch episodes including the first season for free. Only the newest episode is required a paid membership.
Like with the first season, you will have Armin do a brief recap of what happens. Also there are scenes that go between past and present like the first season does. Don't expect this season to be like an action movie though. There will be parts that are mostly talk and focus on minor characters than action scenes. These stories are decent and shouldn't be seen as filler. This arc isn't my favorite from the manga, but watching it is more enjoyable than reading it.
So far, this season looks great. The animation quality is a lot better than the first season as I mentioned earlier. There were some scenes in the first season that was hard to watch because the animation just wasn't there. So I'm glad that they are putting in the time to get characters and scenes to look good. Since the season isn't over yet, I won't say my overall opinion on it is. I am a manga reader so the 4 year wait wasn't that bad for me. I can't say if the show is making the wait worth it or not, but I am satisfied with the episodes so far. Whether or not they will make us wait another four years for the continuation is the real question. I feel by then, the manga might have already ended, haha.
