Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary
2017 is the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise. On January 31, Square Enix held a opening ceremony to celebrate. At this event they announced quite a number of things, but nothing big on the gaming kind of announcement. Though according to Hashimoto, Square Enix game producer, there will be more announcements in the future.
In the ceremony they revealed there will be a fashion line, Final Fantasy themed wines and cakes. There is also a calendar, tote bag, and other goods that will be on sale at the Square Enix estore. They will also have their games on sale at the store as well. They're doing worldwide concerts again, a manga series, a live action tv drama show based on Final Fantas XIV, and some Japan only exhibitions and stuff like an escape room and a snow sculpture. The most interesting thing they showed was their Cup Noodle collaboration of a set of 15 Cup Noodle each based on the antagonist of each numbered game. The set is in preorders now for about 6000 yen so that make sit about 400 yen per cup which is about $4. There isn't any details on what the flavor of each of these are though. Also there's an Ultima Fork which is just a giant fork that will be given to 30 random people who order the set. If it wasn't so huge that I'd worry about the shipping cost I would buy it.
For games, they have announced a number of games that will have new Final Fantasy characters appearing which I will list:
Noctis and Kefka in Itadaki Street Dragon Quest
Cloud in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Balthier in World of Final Fantasy
Sephiroth in Final Fantasy Mobius
The new mobile game, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omina will finally be out now in Japan. If you like mobile games like FFBE, FFRK, and FFMobius then you might like this game since it is similar.
As for the main games, they have shown release date for the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion Stormblood to be 6/20 which is probably not new. For Final Fantasy VII Remake they showed a new key art with Cloud and Sephiroth who both are looking away from us so we don't see their lovely faces sadly but its gorgeous nonetheless. The HD version of Final Fantasy XII is announced to be released on July 11th. And finally for Final Fantasy XV they revealed some DLC news: key image f new outfits that looked like power rangers on the Boost Pack DLC out on 2/21, images of Gladio's DLC out on March 28, and image of Prompto's DLC set to be out on June.
Outside of the ceremony, there are two new Play Arts figures: Lunefreya and Cindy. You can preorder Cindy now which is due to be out in July. The mini figures that are in World of Final Fantasy style chibis are back but in preorder right now, and there's a second set that includes Vincent, Vivi, Bartz, Terra, and Advent Children Cloud. In June, Aranea has been shown to be the next figure for sale
On June 10, there's a special stage appearance of various staff of different FF titles, mostly mobile, to talk about their titles. This is a special collaboration with Yokohama where several spots in the city will be decorated with FF art. The Yokohama Grand Hotel will have a neat projection mapping playing on the building featuring FF and FFXIV since its releasing its new expansion on the 20th. You can read my post about this stage event here.
At E3, Shinji Hashimoto has said there will be a 30th Anniversary exhibit in Tokyo at the Roppongi Hills Mori Art Museum in early 2018.
Since there are plans for more announcements I will keep this post updated. The Final Fantasy VII 20th anniversary stuff I will post on a different post.
