Final Fantasy XV Moogle Chocobo Carnival Event
This is the first gameplay DLC content for Final Fantasy XV. It is quite different. This carnival event is like an MMO event where its limited time. To get this you need to download the Holiday Pack Add On, and this event is free. The Carnival and the update is about 2GB. I will explain a bit about this event and my experience with it.
Downloading and updating the game with the event took my PS4 slim about 40 minutes. On the title screen there will be a new option called "Special" which is where you go to the carnival. You can get in at any point in the game as long as you have a manual save. You can only choose one manual save, and it will have a little golden icon on the save to indicate it. Once you load the carnival up, a little cutscene plays and you are free to explore. This event is limited time and there are no plans for it to return so be sure to do what you want before it ends on February 19. This does seem like an experiment since the success of this may well determine whether the dev team will do more or not.
The carnival is set in Altissia so if you haven't been there yet it may spoil the city for you, but nothing storywise is spoiled in the event. Like real carnivals, this place has a bunch of minigames that you can play. Unfortunately you go into this carnival without your bros, but Noct isn't alone. He has Carbuncle with him as well. He can fast travel you to different attractions once you've visited all of them.
New things you can get from this event aren't much. Other than the two outfits for Noctis, you can get decals, new recipes, and some fishing gear. None of these are "amazing" but if you're a completionist then you should get them before the event ends. Both this event and the update to the main game will add a new feature which is a manual camera mode. So you can take pictures when you want except during driving and battling. The photos you take will be under Noctis' album, but will share the 150 photo limit with Prompto's photos sadly. Other than the manual photos, a number of preorder bonuses are up for purchase as Add ons. So you can get Noctis' Royal Raiment outfit for 50 cents!
The minigames aren't that amazing, but seeing awkward Noctis doing all these things while wearing silly outfits is just fun to me. Some of the minigames are easy while others can be a pain. Catching the runaway Chocochicks drove me a little mad as well as taking photos of the moogle brothers. I had to use a guide for the moogle brothers since I really didn't want to run around in city as disorientating as Altissia. Plus I wasn't doing it right the first time since the quest never updated when I took the picture. Apparently, zoomed in photos don't count. Doing these just rewards you medallions. Medallions are what you need to use to redeem items. Its a good way to get some rarer items. The 50 medallion voucher will give you a nice cutscene to kind of "close off" the event though you can still play in the carnival whenever you want.
Overall, this carnival event is cute and I did enough in an hour and a half to be satisfied enough with it. I didn't do everything, but I may look out to see if anything special that people may have found in the event. While this event may not be amazing, I still will like to have more reasons to return to the game. This event isn't bad to me, though I wasn't expecting much out of it. Hopefully they will continue doing more, and maybe have a new area and we could have all the guys go together. I think it be a great way to give people that wanted to explore other cities without changing the main story of the game.
