Koutetsujou no Kabeneri (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)
I saw a gif from this anime and heard it was like a steam punk Shingeki no Kyojin. This intrigued me so I started watching the first episode and I couldn't stop watching. This is a pretty good anime about old Japan who have walled protected cities with steam trains connecting to each one. They are protecting humans from a dangerous zombie like monsters called Kabane.
This anime is only 12 episodes long, and I'm glad I've watched it as back to back as I can because waiting a week between each episode would be hard. Back to back watching these episodes, the show does have pretty good pacing and development for a 12 episode show. While I do see why people compare this to Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, I think this is pretty good and different on its own. The characters are mostly on a train and going to places is one the biggest difference. Commoners, high ranking people, and fighters are mingled and fighting together on one train. So if you like this sort of action survival horror type stories like Shingeki no Kyojin, this is a really good one that has a story in 12 episodes.
As for the characters, none of them are annoying. Since the show is only 12 episodes, there isn't time to really have backstories and such for everyone except the main two characters, Ikoma and Mumei. You do see some of the support characters grow throughout the show though which is done decently to me. There are some decent female characters in this show too which is great to see. In fact, I like them more than the male characters. They seem to shine more than them.
This anime is one long, messed up train ride. Each episode is exciting and entertaining, and feels that 30 minutes goes by so fast. Half the time when its ends I get surprised because it felt short but it isn't. Definitely recommend this anime! Seems a season 2 is planned to aired in 2018!
