Undertale

Undertale is in quite the rage these days since I'm seeing it being talked about and stuff in most social media I'm in. So I learned about it on Youtube and watched some playthroughs of it and can already see why its so loved. Despite it being rpg style game it has incredible charm. Some may be turned off by the art style since its pixels and slightly on the simple side its really fits with the story of the game.

Really what sells this game is the great music and writing. Also it is unique in that you don't have to kill anyone. Its out of the box concept is really neat and creative and the game is full of it. First I'll talk about the battle system. Like any other rpg there's random encounters. One or more monsters will appear in the black and white combat screen. Below the monster is a box where you must control your heart and dodge the bullets. Yes, its like a top down shooter or bullet hell kind of game. Each monster has its own set of unique attacks. On your turn you have some choices. You can fight and attack the monster or talk to it. Talking to it gives you some options and you must choose the correct ones in order to appease it. Their names will turn yellow once they've no longer want to fight, and this is when you give them mercy. Mercy will end the battle. The battles can get quite challenging so its no as easy as it sounds.

Your choices, actions, and such have an impact on the story. There are 3 types of endings and each give their own unique feel to the story which makes this game quite replayable. You may have to look them up or figure them out yourself. The game isn't too terribly long as well. Some endings take longer than others.

The writing is great in this and is probably the best I've seen in a game in a long time. The characters and monsters you fight are unique as well and each has their own personality yet have the same sort of tone of the story. Its refreshing. They all are quite likable too. There is lots of puns, sarcasm, and silly things but they all are enjoyable surprisingly. It feels quite fun and lighthearted for the most part of the game though it does have some deep story which you must find out yourself! The great attention to details and such is really impressive too.

The music is amazing. They fit with the pixel artstyle so they have that nostalgic game music but modernized. Its catchy and fun and some are just awesome. Definitely motivating and makes you feel good. I seriously don't think the game would be amazing without it. The music is half of what makes the game pretty amazing in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't recommend listening to the soundtrack before playing the game since it will spoil the story.

Overall, I highly recommend this game! Its hard to see how anyone could not like it. This game is funded on Kickstarter and made mainly by one person. That's quite impressive in among itself!
