Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia

This is the new Dissidia game for mobile that came out not too long ago. Its only in Japanese at the moment, but hopefully it won't take a year for it go global but it might anyways. Unlike the console versions, this mobile game isn't a fighting game. It takes the story mode of the games instead where you gather characters from Final Fantasy series and have them fight villains and monsters. Its quite similar to Final Fantasy Record Keeper.

Each chapter has a number of characters you can unlock. The chapter maps have various nodes that you can freely pick from. Clearing these nodes can unlock more nodes. The speech bubbles with "..." are cutscenes, the bullet shaped shields are battles and these come in different colors, a gate with a magic circle have requirements you need to meet to unlock, and the black hole looking icon are the story destination you go towards.

The combat has the stagger mechanic to it. There are two types of points and attacks: Brave and HP. Brave are normal attacks to get the enemies to Break. Brave also generates Brave points but doesn't not lower the enemies' HP. You don't want to be using HP attacks at the start unless the enemies are weak enough to kill them without breaking them. Till you've hit them with Brave attacks enough times it will go into Break state. This is where you use all the saved up Brave points which will become the HP attack hit points. You will have to use Brave attacks again to make HP attacks effective. Using HP attacks with 0 Brave will result in the HP attack to hit for 0 damage. You don't want to have 0 Brave points because this system also is implemented to your party members. Enemies can break you and they will deplete your Brave points when they attack you. Having 0 Brave points you are going to get Break state when the enemy attacks you so keep that in mind. There is an Auto mode so you can easily leave the small fry fighting to the computer.

Characters are mainly unlocked through story, but there will be special events that you can get more characters from. At the moment you can get Squall and Vanille. Each character is assigned to one of six colored crystals. These crystals are used to give characters bonus stats and unlock skills. The Gacha system for this game are for weapons and armor. There are also Summons but you can only have one equipped. They have a gauge that needs to be filled up before you can use them. Each summon buffs your party members for example the Chocobo boosts HP for 50%.

Sure there might be too many FF mobile games out there now, but that sure doesn't stop me from getting this one especially its one of the few with voices. The voices are minimal, but its fine. The 3D design isn't the best though its not another pixel style. As a FF fan, it is kind of fun to see the characters interact with each other in the talking scenes. If that sounds appealing to you, be sure to give this game a try!
