Final Fantasy Record Keeper

This is a new mobile game by Square Enix and Dena. This is a Japanese game, but there is a English version out so do check that out! Since I've been playing the Japanese version since its release this post will be on the Japanese version.

The game setup is you're Deci, Dr Kupo's apprentice and you go into paintings of past Final Fantasy games. There you go into some battles and fight 3-4 waves of monsters then defeat mini bosses. You even unlock main characters from these worlds to fight along side you. The first world you go to is FF7 and after clearing it, FF10 and FF4 are open. Not all of the FF games are available, but they continue to add more. The numbers of paintings differs as well. FF6 has the most so far at the moment. There are two modes: History and Force dungeons. When you enter one of the game's room it is in History dungeon mode. There is a blue button near the top where it will take you to Force dungeon which has the same paintings and enemies but just much harder. There is a Japanese wiki site for this game which shows you the recommended levels for each painting level here. You can Google translate it and the translations are not too hard to understand.

Some monsters will drop orbs or treasure boxes. These would be your equipment. You can also get equipment from the table like icon at the menu bar on the bottom. You can get a chance to win a rare equipment. It requires blue gems though but you can win with login bonus and at battles. There's also a free chance to just get normal one star rating equipment. Orbs are for magic and each spell requires a number of certain orbs to make. Not only magic but for special melee attacks and summons. Getting 2+ star rated orbs will be hard.

Like any FF game, you can only have 4 party members, and Deci isn't a permanent member so you can change him out. He can wield any weapon and ability. The max level is 50 in this game. You can only equip one weapon, one armor, one accessory, and two abilities. It is quite limiting so you will be switching things around a bit.

There's always an event going on: one is a weekday based event and the other is a limited time special event. There are 3 types of the limited time events: challenge, collective and, survival. These events are a lot harder than the main story battles. These events are FF game themed and will have more characters from the games to unlock so its definitely worth giving them a try. The challenge events will have a list of dungeons and they're easy at first but gets progressively harder. The other two only have three difficulty based dungeons where you gain certain items or chocobo feathers which you exchange for orbs, gems, items, or a special character. I don't like these since it requires you to fight the same battles repeatedly to collect the items. The weekday events are daily events where you can gain more exp, gil, or orbs. These events are time sensitive, and they end at midnight Japan time and it doesn't change to the next day event till daylight in Japan. So be sure to check when that is in your timezone. If you try to do this event and it gives you a message and take you back to the main game screen that means the event is over.

I really like the 16bit pixel sprite art style, and the old fashion battle system. It really gives me a lot of nostalgia. The game also uses the original music and sound effects in the games so it was great hearing them too. If you played these games before this game would be easy. Its just defeating enemies. I'm playing for the nostalgia which I think is the best way to enjoy it.
