Fire Emblem Heroes

I have never played a Fire Emblem game but I have heard about it for quite sometime. Now Nintendo has released a mobile game of this series! I can't comment on how it compares to other FE titles since I never played them. I've heard it just has characters from the games and the tactical battle. Since it did just come out the game will seem simple so it would be interesting to see what kind of updates they will bring to this game.

This game does have voice acting, but there's no option for you to have Japanese audio with English text unfortunately. If you want Japanese audio you will have to change the language to Japanese in the FAQ section of the Settings. The game will choose the language for you at first depending on the language of your mobile device. So even if you downloaded through the Japanese store, the game will still be in English at first before you can change it. You can change languages whenever you want, but you will need to redownload the voices each time and will make the game take up 100MB more space. Switching back and forth did not increase the game size much more though. I am personally sticking with the Japanese language since I am playing it for seiyuus. There are guides out there for jailbroken or unrooted devices to get Japanese audio to work with English text. Not something I am willing to test out to see if they work, but if you are you can find them on reddit.

So the game is obviously very anime, but the art and animations look pretty decent. I really do like the look of the little sprites. This game isn't the most original game its a tactical style combat. Your characters each have certain blocks they can move, and once you move all your team characters once its the enemy's turn. Luckily there's an auto battle option so you can just let the computer do the fighting for you which is what I'm doing most of the time. You will have to go through the Main Story battles to unlock the other areas and characters.

If you are a fan of the series,  I have heard people are uninstalling and reinstalling the game to get their favorite characters from the gacha. You have to not link the game with your Nintendo account to do this though. You won't keep the previous characters you got when you go to uninstall the game so keep that in mind if you want to do this. This seems to be a technique that people do for these kind of games, but I personally don't want to go through the hassle of repeating the tutorial over and over till I get what I want. The gacha is kind of different in this game. Each single summon cost 5 orbs and you have to confirm you want to do another instead of having summoning a group a once. The gacha gives you 5 random colored orbs and you can choose which one you want. The orb cost lowers the more from this random draw you go to unlock.

Like with many other games like this, you can level your characters and increase their star rating. There are training towers and special maps that you can grind levels with. Once characters get to level 20 you can increase their star rating. These use shards, crystals, and feathers that you get from winning battles and tapping characters with animated hearts around them on the home screen.

Overall, this game isn't too bad. If any of the characters interest you and you like collecting stuff games then I suggest trying it out. It is free!
