Trailer - Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Tokyo Game Show is this weekend, and Playstaion's Press Conference event was yesterday. I watched it live and saw the new KH 2.8 trailer. It showed some new footage of 0.2 title with Aqua. While it is slightly similar to the previous KH remixs, this game has some new stuff one of which is a CGI movie. If you play the KH mobile game, then the movie should be familiar to you. If not, then the movie would seem quite foreign. It will most likely tell the events that lead to the Keyblade War that was mentioned in the other KH games. Its definitely an important part of the KH story so it would be nice if the movie will explain its meaning in the story.
The new playable episode with Aqua is more easily understandable. Sora is on a mission to save the main three friends in Birth by Sleep so it would only makes sense to learn what has become of Aqua. The other playable title is Dream Drop Distance which was released for 3DS. This is good for someone like me who doesn't have a 3DS. If you haven't heard or know about DDD, it takes place after KH2 where Riku and Sora take the exam to become Keyblade masters.
This game was previously scheduled to be released in December 2016, but since the delays of other Square Enix titles, it has been pushed to January 12 in Japan, and 24th for US and Europe. I did see some impatient comments and even hate for Nomura. While I understand that people want KH3, it is a bit disrespectful to brush off these "spinoffs" as I find them to be rather important to the KH story. People may see these extras games to make the story more confusing, but to me they filled in the blanks. Unless 2.8 gives a new type of story element, I do sort of expect KH3 to be the end of the series. The past seem to be fully told and explained once 2.8 is out which will give enough information to start KH3.
I do not expect any big news or information on KH3 until after 2.8 is out. I say this because talking about it now will only lessen the interest for fans to buy 2.8. It is strictly business to keep all the KH press to be only about this game title. Nomura is also busy with the FF7 Remakse as well so its best to wait for them to have more material to show than small vague things (I'm looking at you Kojima). The one things I really want from the KH games is Japanese voices.
