Final Fantasy XV Chapter 13 Verse 2

The new patch that came out today has story updates for Chapter 13. This update is free and I will talk a bit about it. This is the day before Gladio's DLC so this also will give you a preview of Gladio's gameplay will be like. Also this is obviously spoilers so please don't continue with the post if you don't want spoilers for Final Fantasy XV! One tip I will give is when you get to this chapter for the first time, choose Noctis first. You can switch to Gladio but you can't go back so keep that in mind!

So you have the option to play this part of the chapter in the Special in the title screen. This may not be there all the time since it is for the DLC episodes. When you do the main story a pop-up will appear asking whether you want to play as Noctis or as Gladio. It even labeled Noctis' route as Normal difficulty and Gladio's route as Easy difficulty. Fair warning though, if you start with Gladio, there is no option to switch to Noctis. Gladio's route will go straight to when you rejoin with Noct and it be too late to play Noct's route. If you choose Noctis, you can switch to Gladio in the Dorms where you can rest and save. Of course since Gladio doesn't have that switch option you will end up going straight to where they rejoin so you may end up missing stuff in Noct's route. It is a weird way to handle this and kind of wish it was better.

Gladio's route is much shorter than Noct's route. You finish it in 30-40 minutes while I believe Noct's took me like 2-3 hours but that's a guess since I don't remember exactly how long. As for story, there isn't much since it is short. There are like 3 radio broadcasts that you can listen to that gives a bit more about the city though I didn't find them that interesting. It is more of keeping Gladio and Ignis the similar kind of info on what happened as with Noct on his route. There is only one cutscene that involves Ravus. The cutscene is about 2-3 minutes long so it isn't much, but I was surprised with it. Also there is still a bit of a difference between Japanese and the English text of this game. It kind of bothered me in this new chapter stuff since the English brought in some current political references. I didn't notice at first since I didn't really pay attention to the English text. Just saw how unusually long one line was for the English compare to the Japanese dub. Not sure why they wanted to put that in but I personally rather it not be in there. Some people would enjoy it though I felt it was kind of out of place. Items are not saved or carried over either. There's just potions to pick up in Gladio's route so you're not missing anything.

Overall, this is a decent update. I didn't think the chapter needed it and it definitely didn't make the story any less sad. It is something new so if you got an hour its worth giving this a shot. Its a good way to get back into the game if you haven't played in awhile. Since Gladio's DLC is soon its also a good way to test him gameplay. Its is different, and I definitely wasn't able to fully get use to it before the chapter ended. He is more limited than Noct, but he has some neat moves.
