Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive Movie
This movie, Kingsglaive, is the first part of the Final Fantasy XV universe to be released. I wasn't sure what exactly this movie is about, but it became clear to me as I watched the movie. I have wrote a post about the first part of the movie that was shared here.
So this movie is around the same time as the video game. It tells what happens to the Lucis Kingdom when Noctis, the main character in the video game, is out of the kingdom. While I think it be fine to watch this before playing the game, if you want to experience the story in chronological order then perhaps you should wait for the game. I do think the events in the movie will be mentioned in the game. As to how far into the game, I have no idea but my best guess is perhaps the first couple hours or game play.
So Kingsglaive refers to a special forces kind of group that the king of Lucis made. They are special because they borrow the magical powers from the king. Also they are from outside the capital city. The interesting part of this movie is getting to know more about the enemy kingdom, Niflheim. The name Niflheim is so similar to the town Nibelheim in FF7 that I sometimes confuse them both. The emperor and the chancellor of Niflheim remind me of the emperor and Kefka of Final Fantasy 6. I think fans of Final Fantasy would like the references in this movie.
This movie is quite action packed like a any Hollywood action movie. The graphics are impressive and I don't really see flaws. I mean the lip syncing is weird, but not in a bad way. The story for this isn't too bad either, but it isn't the greatest so I'm not going to saying its amazing. It did pique my interest for the game more than I already do. I did see a reviewer find it confusing, but it didn't confused me at all. Perhaps, it might be something that may need a second viewing to those who really haven't been keeping track of the game's progress as I have. As for the voice acting, the big name actors did a wonderful job with this, but there is a bit of a skill gap with them and the others. There is one character I wish had a better voice actor, but its not like his performance was unbearable.
Overall, I rather enjoyed this movie. Lots of action that is an interesting mesh of Hollywood action and Japanese type of action. I do think its better than the previous CG movies Square Enix has done with the Final Fantasy title.
