E3 2018
Its that time again for E3! An event where companies announce video game titles, and try to show them off to potential consumers.First, the press conferences! None of them really excited me much, but it doesn't mean there wasn't any games that didn't interest me. From EA only Sea of Solitude looked rather interesting for its artistic style. Microsoft had a few that looked nice: Ori 2, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Kingdom Hearts 3, Tunic, and Cyberpunk 2077. I've never was interested in Bethesda games so none of the games in the conference interested me, but Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls VI is the big titles they announced. Square Enix had a very short showcase but it announced Babylon's Fall which looked really cool. Ubisoft showed off a very gorgeous and impressive cinematic trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 but since I never played the first one I don't have much interest in this till I see something that isn't cinematic. Sony didn't show much games either, but Last of Us part 2 had a really cool gameplay trailer. Ghost of Tsushima on the other hand looks beautiful and very movie like. Control and Resident Evil 2 remake also looked neat. And of course they showed Death Stranding but I'm still not sure what is going on in this game. And last is Nintendo which is mostly on the new Super Smash Bros. They did announce a new Mario Party and Fire Emblem game.
Kingdom Hearts 3 finally has a release date. This E3 they showed 3 different trailers and they revealed Frozen and Ratatouille will be in the game as well as the return of Pirates of the Caribbean. It also showed a few Organization XIII members and Ansem and Xemnas is there too for some reason. Big reveal was Aqua but her eyes are yellow so seems like Xehanort has taken over her body. Another reveal was Replica Riku also showed up for a reason I have do not know. All the side games does come into play in this game so it be interesting how they will handle that as many probably never touched those games.
While I expected the new FromSoftware game to be an asian theme game, but I was surprised that they're doing two titles: Sekiro and Deracine. Sekiro has that usual FromSoftware style but with some changes. Deracine is a PS VR title that FromSoftware and JapanStudio are putting out. Some sort of mystery game where you're a spirit at a boarding school. I know people are hoping for a Bloodborne sequel, but From does better with new titles than sequels so I'm glad there isn't a second Bloodborne.
I'm not even a Smash player, but I did watch quite a bit of them showcasing the game as well as watched the tournament they had. Quite a bit of people were excited for it, and they're excitement had made me want to watch this. This game seems big since they're putting everyone from past games into this game. I don't have the eyes for fighting games so I don't know any of the moves that's happening, but I do know how the game works as I've played Smash before a very long time ago. It was a bit weird they had somewhat well known people from other industries come on to play a casual game. They weren't good at all since they played against other fans and even a pro. They had top players competing this unfinished game, and it wasn't a bad watch. It was interesting that one of the competitors used Bayonetta and showed how broken of a character she was while the game director, Masahiro Sakurai was there in the audience watching.
Of course I did see people wondering where FF7 remake is, if they ever kept up with the news they would know they're changing its development to be in house since like last year and had job openings so it definitely needs more time which I'm fine with. Also SE won't promote more than one big game title in the same year. Last year was the FF12 remaster game, the year before that was FFXV, and this year is Kingdom Hearts 3. No idea what they will promote next year, but I won't be surprised if its not FF7. Another game that I also saw people hoping for is a new Animal Crossing game. Since there's already an Animal Crossing mobile game, I won't be surprised if Nintendo waited to develop it further and do something similar with it as they did with Pokemon Go and make some sort of companion game with it.
E3 is still ongoing so I may update as I see anything that might be worth talking about here.
