Kaytee Clean and Cozy Small Animal Bedding

The last bedding I got was aspen and it was pretty dusty so it has been making my hamster sneezing too much. Since I heard this brand was dust free compare to aspen and carefresh that I went ahead and bought it. Its really compact and it true that a piece becomes 3 times as large so I barely take much from the bag to fill the cage up. My hamster has fun playing with it and sleepy in it. Its really soft compare to aspen and will probably keep him warm during the colder seasons. The bedding is white and not colored or have any added scents. May not be the most natural or interesting bedding in the world, but I do not care for appearance. I thought that it being white would make finding my hamster's pee spot easier but it hasn't. At least I don't have to worry much about seeing yellowed areas in the cage.

However it doesn't do well to control odor as aspen so I often have to spot clean the cage or clean the cage a bit more often. Mixing some aspen in with the bedding seems to help with the smell but it still makes my hamster sneeze so I can't put too much. I generally don't mind the animal smell, and I think its just a mix of his scent gland more than his urine I'm smelling. It does a much better job at keeping my hamster's burrows in tact unlike aspen. Although it is easy to have the tunnels collapse but I'm sure your hamster will be ok with making more in his cage. I hear having a mixed bedding of peat, hay, aspen, and paper bedding make great burrowing for hamsters.

Overall, I recommend this for being mostly dust free and its great to mix it with aspen. The odor should not be a problem if you clean the cage every week. Unless your cage is larger than 360 square inches you would have to clean the cage less often.
