Toy Story 4 (2019)
Toy Story 4 is the newest sequel to the Toy Story series. Was it needed? No. Did I enjoy? Yes, for the most part. And this is probably a cash grab of a movie, but it definitely was also a sort of reboot. If you're going in thinking it be the same old gang that you've known the movies for then you'd be in for a surprise. There's quite a few interesting concepts in this movie, and is probably setting up for a brand new kind of Toy Story series. The rest of this post will be spoilers so do not read further if you don't want spoilers and haven't seen the movie!
One of the new concepts is obviously a toy can be made for Forky was. Another is being a toy without a child. The movie starts off in the past with Andy and going back to when Woody and Bo Peep had this romance going on. Then in present time Woody isn't being played with by their new child Bonnie. So its a little sad to see things aren't going so well for Woody, and this movie is very Woody focused. The other toys hardly had screen time, Buzz included.So other than Woody the movie reintroduced Bo Peep who has changed quite a bit, and some new toy characters. All these new characters, except Forky, do not belong to a child and the term for them is "lost toys." Bo Peep shows him being a lost toy isn't bad as you get to see the world. And in the end Woody does end up choosing to be a lost toy with Bo Peep which essentially means he's retiring.
I didn't come into this movie expecting it to end like this. Not exactly sure how they will continue this if they are continuing the Toy Story franchise. I was a bit upset at first, and I won't be surprised if others were upset or disappointed. But the movie overall was enjoyable and emotional. Its definitely more up-to-date in terms of humor and Bo Peep being the one leading Woody around. I can't say it's as good as the other movies cause I don't like the idea of characters retiring, but that's just me. And I should mention there are shorts that came out before this movie that I feel is worth watching if you wanted Bonnie playing with the toys. There's 3 really short animations and 2 20 minute shorts: Hawaiian Vacation, Short Fry, Partysaurus Rex, The Time Forgotten, and Story of Terror. Most of these focus on the side characters as Woody and Buzz hardly does much in these shorts.
