Mystic Messenger

So I've been hearing about this Mystic Messenger game so I figure I should see what it is. I thought it was going to be one of those robot chat programs like Cleverbot or Evie. It isn't! So this game is a Korean otome game or dating sim. The game is available in English, but the voices are in Korean. I never played a Korean otome game before but I don't think it be any different from Japanese or English made ones. This game asks 1.5GB of space which is a lot in my opinion, but at the moment my phone says its only about 800MB.

The game does have a story. The introduction to it is a bit long, and getting into the chat is weird on its own. It did take me a minute to get use to it. You basically communicate with these guys on a chatroom. You can also get private messages and calls with them. All the conversations are scripted and you just have to choose one of the provided responses which may increase their affection for you. I don't see a meter or anything to show your progress with the affection. At a certain point in the game, it will warn you that the story will branch. The chat days will then show a picture of one of the guys that your route will end up with. When you choose a response a heart may spin away. The color of the heart indicates the person that liked your response: Zen is gray, Yoosung is green, Jumin is blue, Seven is red, and Jaehee is yellow. The choices are rather pretty easy to tell which will be a good and which will be bad.

While there are messages, status updates, and phone calls, the most important part is the chat. The chat has a set 11 days. It is run in real time by the time zone you chose. Each day there will be chat events at certain times, and you should have notifications on so you don't miss them. If you have missed them, you can spend 5 Hourglass to participate it, but the cost will increase further in the days. Calling also cost 5 Hourglass but these don't seem to affect the endings so it be a waste of Hourglass. The missed conversations in the chat will show you what they talk about without you there. Sometimes they talk by themselves or with others. You need to view them as they are part of the story and to progress to the next chat or day. The next important thing is handling the party guest emails. They don't start until the second day. You will have to try to get as many guests to come to the party as you can. There is a list of guests icons and my first playthrough I was only able to get about half of them. To get them, the guys will mention about inviting a certain guest to the party and you have a choice to have them contact you or not. They will mention them in missed chats so you will need to spend Hourglass to get them from the guys.

The guys aren't too bad after talking with them for a couple of days. There is actually one girl there too which is interesting, but I think it would be cute. I am curious if this girl is a rival, love interest, or someone you can match make with another guy or even all the above? It seems you will have to spend 80 hourglass to go through two of the guy's route which is lame but understandable since the game is free. The translations for this game is not perfect. There will quite a number of spelling errors and the excessive "lols" is a bit cringy, but I know that this way of laughing is more common in asian cultures than it is for westerners. I haven't played very long but so far it has caught my interest. It is a bit unique so I'd like to see how it progresses from here. So I would say its definitely worth checking out.
