Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Mouse, Rat, and Hamster food
I bought this with my new hamster because I learned about it from a hamster youtuber. Didn't want to risk having a picky hamster so I bought this since its pellets and not a seed mix. Its pretty cheap for the 3 lb bag too. The bag is suppose to be resealable but its ripped open before I even opened the bag. Some people complain about this issue. This food also has a smell to it. It can be a bit strong. My hamster may find it boring but he eats the appropriate amount everyday. After learning more about hamsters, I realized this food is not that great. The bag advertise that its really healthy for your pets and lists all the healthy things about it like omega-3s and being good for their teeth. But the word fortified means its processed to a point that the natural ingredients loses its nutritional properties that they have add supplements to make up for it. This is not healthy at all. I have a diabetes prone hamster and to have corn as the first ingredient is not a good for him. Corn and peas are very common ingredients in pet food, but they are high in sugar foods so they increase the risk of my hamster getting diabetes. It doesn't help that it also has cane sugar and molasses in it as well.
I decided to feed my hamster some millets and barley along with the pellet food, he goes for the millets and barley first despite it not being sugary. From the hamster lovers I've learned that Kaytee is not a good company for pet food. Although it is safe for your pets to eat it, its definitely not the most healthiest.
