8 in 1 Yogies for hamster, gerbil & rat fruit flavor treats
I was looking for treats for my hamster and saw that these yogies treats had alot of good reviews on Amazon and it was at a good price. It came in a little plastic white tub that is 3.5 oz. in size. It says its made with yogurt too as its part of the name I would assume. I was surprised to see how unhealthy this treat is when I looked at the ingredients list. Its basically candy so its not wonder animals love it. The It wasn't until later that I learned that winter white hamsters are diabetes prone species. So I had to stop giving the treat to him, but I did keep it as they work well to encourage chewing on chew toys. The treat itself are drops and shaped exactly like chocolate chips you use to make chocolate chip cookies with. They are pink like strawberry candy pink and they smell sickeningly sweet too. They're kind of like chocolate since they melt a bit in my warm fingers like milk chocolate. There was a huge clump of the treat stuck together in the tub when I got it but it wasn't too hard to break apart with fingers and a utensil. Since my hamster is a dwarf I wouldn't give him the whole treat and would just cut off 1/3 of one. So the whole tub is alot of one hamster and I don't want to give it to him more than once a month. If your pet is not a diabetes prone species you can obviously feed your animal companion these treats. I really doubt that you're pet would dislike this treat but they are really fattening. Since my hamster is not much of a chewer I like to rub this treat on chew toys like wooden chew sticks alittle bit, and he would automatically go chewing and licking on it. I would not advise rubbing too much since I don't want to encourage him to eat the chew too. But its great to do to get your hamsters into using chew toys since they sometimes ignore them or don't know what they're for.
Overall these are OK. I would not recommend buying them as they are unhealthy and fattening, and because they have yogurt in them they do not have a long shelf life. Mine only has a year left till the Use By date. So I keep them in the fridge or freezer in hopes to make them last longer and to prevent clumping. I think this would be a good buy for someone who has more than one pet they can feed these too and also have many other treats to give them variety. I would not use this treat as a sole treat to your pets as its just not healthy and there are healthier treats out there. Treats are important to gain trust from your pets and give it to them daily or however suitable to the species. I just wouldn't advise giving the rodent animals this treat is for daily. They are good as special treats. It may help lure out new pets if other treats don't work well especially for timid or scared ones. Since its so sugary its irresistible.
